Peter Strikes with a Gun

"Piitaapoyi Eagle Speaker"

This year, we remember and honour Peter Strikes With A Gun, a remarkable man whose wisdom and kindness touched countless lives. A ceremonialist, Knowledge Keeper, historian, Niitsitapi teacher, addictions and wellness counsellor, and Chief of the Piikani First Nation from 1997 to 2006, Peter was a tireless advocate for Indigenous culture, reconciliation, youth, and community. For many years, Peter blessed our Heritage Festival and our community with his presence, prayers, teachings, and music. He brought encouragement, wisdom, and grace to every gathering, and it was always an honour to welcome him. We were especially privileged to have Peter and his family join us to celebrate his 80th birthday at our event, where we shared cake, laughter, and gratitude. One of Peter’s lasting messages was that we be kind, learn to live as one people, respect one another, and honour the land we agreed to share. Those words, and the spirit in which he shared them, will stay with us always. Peter was a true blessing to our community, and we are deeply grateful for the many years he spent blessing our festival and enriching our lives. His presence will be missed beyond words, but his teachings, music, prayers, and legacy will continue to guide and inspire us for generations to come.
