Iron Ridge Logging Road Hike
Jim Prentice Wildlife Corridor Update
Meeting at Mcgilvray Staging area
We will hike up an old logging road to the top of Iron Ridge (approx 45 mins up). There are portions of the trail that are suitable for moderate hiking, making it a welcome destination for families, although it's recommended for children 8 years nd older.
Once we reach the top, NCC will present an update on the Jim Prentice Wildlife Corridor, as well as some history of the area. The ridge has a great view of the west end of the pass and Coleman. We will then hike back down the ridge and return to the cars. It's estimated that the hike/tour will last 1.5 to 2 hours.
The McGillivray Staging Area, located north of Highway 3, serves as an access point for my trailheads. Travel west on Hwy 3 through Coleman, turning north on 61 Street. Then, follow 23 Ave. for approximately 2 km, and you will arrive at the McGillivray staging area.

“Spanning five American states, two Canadian provinces, two Canadian territories, and at least 75 Indigenous territories, the Yellowstone to Yukon region is unlike any other in the world. This incredible landscape, spanning over 500,000 square miles, represents the most intact large mountain region in North America.
We recognize that preserving this vital region is the most effective way to address the loss of biodiversity and the impact of a changing climate. Y2Y’s work addresses the needs of the region’s wildlife and people, giving animals freedom to roam and protecting habitat for grizzly bears, caribou, wolves, and more. The border area is critical as that is where wildlife have begun experiencing challenges moving and mating, and solutions require local communities to play key roles.”
Presenter Bio: Dr. Jodi Hilty is president and chief scientist of Y2Y. Specializing in ecological corridors and large landscape research, she has 30 years of experience managing large landscape conservation efforts. She is the author of four books and the 2020 IUCN Guidelines for Conserving Connectivity.
