The Scene of the Crime

In a region shaped by industry and tragedy, the Crowsnest Pass continues to be one of the most vibrant and beautiful ‘watering holes’ in the Canadian Rockies. Surviving hardships early in the Crowsnest Pass was an accomplishment. How did those early residents do it?

They had a little help from a few libations now and then.

Booze and Bars: A Brief History of Pub Culture in Crowsnest Pass wades through how alcohol is interlaced with the history of the

community, focusing on the built heritage and vernacular

architecture that facilitated the unique pub culture of the region.

Join author and historian, Stephanie Laine Hamilton, on the Booze and Bars – Coleman Walking Tour on Saturday or on the Prohibition in the Crowsnest Pass Bus Guided Tour on Sunday to enjoy some of the fascinating history and pub culture of the Pass in new ways. Cheers!

Booze and Bars books are available to purchase at the Crowsnest Museum and the Frank Slide Interpretive Centre.
